The annual validation of the DMA
ASICS aims to develop products and services that strengthen people’s physical and mental well-being, while minimising impact on the planet. Since 2019, we’ve supported ASICS on their sustainability journey: from shaping and sharpening their sustainability strategy to co-writing their annual sustainability report (see case Communicating for positive change).
The Double Materiality Assessment
In line with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) a double materiality assessment (DMA) is not only a requirement but also an opportunity to gain a clearer view of where an organisation truly makes a difference. Companies must show on how they impact the world and how sustainability risks and opportunities affect them in return. ASICS had already completed an initial DMA, but in world where stakeholder expectations, regulations and the sustainability themes shift quickly, regular validation is important. This is where The Terrace stepped in, to support the annual validation of the DMA and ensure it stays relevant and aligned with the changing environment.

Validating what matters
To validate the DMA, we started with desk research, looking at market developments, competitors, and the media. We hosted various workshops with ASICS’s Global and European teams and conducted in-depth interviews with key internal and external stakeholders.
By combining European and global insights, we built a clear picture of which sustainability topics truly matter to ASICS today and where priorities need to shift. What really stood out was the power of stakeholder conversations. The stakeholder’s input didn’t just show which topics are material; they also revealed new opportunities for ASICS to further strengthen its positive impact and create meaningful value for both their business and society.
