As of 2014, UTZ Certified are the largest sustainable farming program on coffee and cocoa worldwide. UTZ enables farmers to learn better farming methods, improve working conditions and take better care of their children and the environment.

Helping to leverage the Customer Marketing unit
UTZ Certified finds it important that their customers – coffee, tea and chocolate brands – can convince consumers of the importance of sustainable production. Their Customer Marketing unit was created to help their customer brands tell their own sustainability story endorsed by UTZ. UTZ Certified approached The Terrace to help them to get focused on how to get to work with the Customer Marketing unit.

Creating a successful model for Sustainable Marketing
We trained the UTZ team on the latest developments in the field of sustainable marketing and together we explored opportunities to start a conversation about sustainability between brands, consumers, and other stakeholders, using our Collaboration Model for Sustainable Marketing.

The UTZ team was up to date on the latest developments and trends in sustainable marketing. Together, we defined the core messages on which the brands should communicate about UTZ to their consumers, and we developed a pitch presentation for one of their customers, which can be used as a starting point to talk about joint marketing efforts.

Making the UTZ brand relevant for all stakeholders
UTZ felt the need to better convey its mission and to strengthen its market position. Through the facilitation of several sessions, we helped UTZ to refine their brand differentiation and distinction, as well as their unique brand values. We translated the above into an appealing brand-narrative for a broad range of stakeholders and developed a new pay-off and visual identity, converting the narrative into a new website and communication material.

No more communication gaps
Through a captivating narrative, UTZ was able to convey its mission and values in a consistent manner, bridging the gaps between their various stakeholders. As the number of topics that UTZ has policies for is quite broad, our visual creations fostered a clear positioning on each of these topics. This, in turn, gave way to sharp and coherent communication between UTZ and their clients.
