Calco's ESG journey, beyond compliance

Navigating the complexities of the CSRD by using regulatory changes to drive meaningful improvements and sustainability innovation.

For over 20 years, Calco has been a leading expert in finding and connecting IT talents in The Netherlands. Its mission is clear: Leaving no talent untapped. That includes training and matching talent with companies, embracing cognitive diversity as a core business model while redefining sustainability in its sector.

Calco wants to stay ahead of the curve, using regulations as a springboard for strategic change, not just compliance. That’s why they reached out to The Terrace.

From Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) to comprehensive action plan

Calco’s vision extends beyond the mitigation of its environmental risks. The ambition is to gain deeper insights on shaping the diversity in the market, identify areas for improvement, and seize opportunities for sustainable growth. Together with Calco’s team, we kick-offed our collaboration with a Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) and gap analysis to prepare for Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) compliance.

Through board-level discussions and workshops, we identified key ESG topics, including

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from offices, data centers, business travel, and commuting.
  • Establishing clear client agreements on equal treatment for their trainees.
  • Ensuring secure employment for their trainees after traineeships.
  • Complying with evolving labor regulations.
  • And more.

Based on these insights of the DMA and gap analysis, we developed a comprehensive action plan. Calco’s innovative and forward-thinking team was pivotal in shaping this plan. Implementation is ongoing, with the board’s active involvement ensuring strategic alignment.

Going the extra mile: Pathway to net zero

Driven by Calco’s own ambitions as well as CSRD compliance requirements, we calculated the company’s environmental footprint (Scope 1, 2, and 3), forming the basis of its Pathway to Net Zero. This pathway includes actionable strategies for reducing emissions and implementing CO2 compensation measures. It provides Calco with a clear, measurable roadmap towards ensuring sustainability becomes Calco’s catalyst for growth and innovation.
